I guess being away from Toronto has made me miss the criminal element/seedy underbelly of the big city. Fortunately for me I picked up a copy of The Carmel Pine Cone and was able to get my fix from their Police Log:
Pebble Beach - Female reported her house key was discovered missing off of her key ring and later found on the floor of the valet's office at the Spanish Bay Inn.
Let's just say I barely slept after reading about such a horrific event happening so close to me. Really makes you think.
After such intense reading over breakfast, I wandered some around Downtown Carmel-By-The-Sea as the Carmel art fair was in full force. Carmel's commercial district is much like an Icelandic fjord in that many bars, restaurants, and businesses are only accessible once you come off the street and into the alcoves and bays within. As I explored and examined the posted menus of various restaurants, I decided I needed a break from eating out. So, off to market to buy bread, cheese, salami, marinated mushrooms, and a bottle of Californian red wine. One stop shopping and supplies for the day. I squirreled the goods back to my hotel room and decided to take a drive along the one and only 17 Mile Drive. Yes, that's right, more driving. The weather was cool and low cloud hung over the area. But off to Pebble Beach I had to go.
Continuing the natural disaster element of the trip:
And the Lone Cypress made famous by the Pebble Beach logo:
Upon my return, the feast of market edibles hit the spot and the bottle of wine passed the test. I ventured out for an evening walk and found myself at the piano bar at Clint Eastwood's Mission Ranch. Talk about wildlife! There were more cougars in that bar than I have ever seen in nature!!! Unfortunately, I was the youngest (by at least 10 years) and least divorced (by at least 3 failed marriages) in the crowd and it would appear that most of the same crowd was WAAAYYY ahead of me in drinks consumed. I endured a little bit longer and called it a night.
Up next, San Francisco.

Failed relationships? Cougars? Sounds like my kind of place!
